the Houma, Thibodaux, and surrounding areas since December

Jared “Smitty” Smith, has one vision when

Jared "Smitty" Smith -
CEO / Owner Velocity Computers
Jared is a 1992 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois
High School in Gray, LA. Originally from Schriever, LA;
Jared enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1992
specializing in Computer Electronics, Satellite Communications,
and Maintenance Management with the 24th Marine Expeditionary
Unit (Special Operations Unit). During this time Jared
developed and used his skills to assist his team with
Satellite Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance,
and Logistical support in tours of duty in Somalia, Bosnia,
Haiti, Iraq, Kuwait, and Liberia. Jared was highly decorated
upon his completion of his enlistment receiving such medals
as The Navy Achievement Medal and The Ronald Reagan Presidential
Unit Citation.
Upon his completion of duties, Jared stayed in North
Carolina and started his life in the civilian sector by
using his technical skills to develop the Technology sectors
of multiple Fortune 500 companies in that area. In these
roles, Jared supervised large scale rollouts of networks,
operated as a technical liaison for a large telecommunications
company in the Charlotte, N.C. area and then assumed the
position of Area Sales Manager and Trainer for the company.
Jared helped his company install one of the first Omni
directional ground based satellite internet distribution
systems in the country in 2001. After the company was
sold to a larger telecommunications company, Jared decided
to fulfill his entrepreneurial spirit and opened his own
business in Fayetteville, N.C. in 2002.
With a former military acquaintance, Jared opened a Computer
Retail and Repair Company and a Web Site Development/Hosting/Software
company simultaneously in order to service the military
bases and government businesses and industries in the
southern North Carolina area. Achieving great success
in North Carolina as a business man, Jared decided to
sell his part of the business and move back home to Houma,
LA. Here he opened Velocity Computers Inc. in 2003.
Jared has been operating in the Houma, LA area since
December 2003 and has achieved great results. In 2006,
Jared partnered with Paul Engeron to open Cognition Creative, a marketing company also located
in Houma, LA. As of today, Velocity Computers and Cognition
Creative are recognized as one of the top technology companies
in the South Louisiana area and have launched new breakthrough
software products such as CrewChange.
With 15 years in the technology business, Jared uses
his knowledge, abilities, leadership, work ethic, and
business savvy to help further the success of his clients,
partners, and employees
Jared lives in Houma, LA. He is married and has two children.
Jared is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Microsoft
Certified Professional, A+ Certified by CompTia, Net+
Certified by CompTia, and is a member of MENSA Technology
Group, The Chamber of Commerce, The Knights of Columbus,
and many other volunteer community organizations.
